Week 3
This week saw the children settled into routines and able to concentrate for longer spells!

The children are taking part in an Art lesson on drawing taken by Liz Hooker.
We do mini handwriting lessons each day as part of Phonics. As the sound of the day is introduced, so do the children practice forming that letter. On Fridays we take a longer time on handwriting. Each week a couple of 'Neat Writers' are chosen. Their reward is to spend time on the app--Letter School.

Ethan and Cohen are our first two 'Neat Writers'.
During last week we celebrated 'Ash Wednesday'. Each week leading up to Easter one of the Religious Education lessons of the week will be spent on Lent. The children are learning that; 'Lent is the season to get ready for Easter'.
Part of Lent is alms giving. I am encouraging the children to bring along a coin--10, 20 etc to put in the mission box. This can be at any time.
Do remember its 'Family Fun Night' this coming Thursday Feb 26th.

Regards,
Mary

Welcome to ROOM 1
Monday Feb 2nd 2015

Dear Parents
It is great to be back and working with you all. For some of you it is not only your child’s first day but your introduction to school life as well. It can be overwhelming! Please feel free to keep asking questions, refer to a ‘Week of It’ on the Whiteboard and check our school web site for newsletters and Room 1’s classroom blog.

This year it’s our school’s aim to go as paperless as possible. The news in this letter only covers the events happening in Room 1 this week.
This week I will be concentrating on introducing the children to class routines and school routines. This week we will also spend time on getting to know each other and setting up some class rules.

We began Maths and Reading today. Every night from Monday through to Thursday night your child will bring home their book bag with a reader in it and a sound card. Please write the name of the reader in the Homework notebook each night and sign it. The sound card remains in their folder until they master it.  Just go through a few sounds a night depending on your child’s concentration.

Next week on Tuesday Feb 10th we will be holding classroom meetings to explain routines, curriculum areas that will be covered over the term and expectations. There will be a school notice going out soon to confirm this. There will be two sessions; 3.10pm and 6 pm.

Tuesday is our PE day and the children do not need their school uniform.  This Thursday is our first school mass at 9.15am. The children come to school wearing their school uniform and no sports gear is needed. You are all welcome to attend this mass.

I really look forward to working with you all as we jointly support your child’s learning.

Regards,

Mary Shaw
