Round up of Term 3 week 9

Hi All

We started the week with Science Alive--many thanks to Anna and Hilaire for being our Parent Helps. The Instructor from Science Alive had the children divided into 4 groups and moving around set stations.
Science Alive took place in Room 3.

Emilia, James, Hayley and David at the magnet station.

Noah having fun.

Miss Norman also took a station.

Tuesday was Gymnastics and the children did practice their backward rolls and handstands.

The children doing their warm ups.

James being shown how to do a handstand;

Then on Wednesday for Procedural writing Miss Norman showed the children how to make 'smores'.

As you can see from the above photos, first the marshmellow is placed on the biscuit. Then another biscuit is placed on top. All looks yummy.

For this last week; Monday all the Rutherford team teachers will be on classroom release--planning for the last term of 2015.
Tuesday sees the last day of gymnastics and on Wednesday the PTA are giving us the 'El Gregro' show on cyber bullying. Friday is not only the last day of Term 3 but also Miss Renee Norman's last day with us.

Regards,
Mary

Round up of Term 3 week 8

Hi All

It was certainly a different week starting with the Marae experience on Monday. It was a fabulous day.

Polly, Sophie and two girls from Rm 12 enjoying the morning tea put on by Hillmorton.

Two of the Hillmorton students leading the children in one of the activities involving sticks.

This is the statue game that your children might have told you about. The children had to keep a straight face and couldn't laugh even when they had Hillmorton students trying hard to get a laugh.
Tuesday was the second session of gymnastics.

The beginning of the session.

Angus ready for something....

One of the Instructors working with Jessica.

Joshua and Liam on one of the stations.

Emilia and Hayley on another station.
We were told that over the next two weeks they would be shown how to do forward and backward rolls, handstands and cartwheels.

Then on Wednesday we got the news that Jo Earl will be leaving us to take up role as Principal of St Francis of Assis. A marvelous promotion for her but she will be sorely missed by us all!!

This coming week we have Science Alive coming to school. For us that is tomorrow from 11-12.30 in Rm 3. All their activities will be based around our second science unit on Forces. Of course Tuesday will be Gymnastics.

Regards,
Mary

Round up of Term 3 week 7

Hi All
I hope all the Room 1 Dads have had a lovely day!
On Tuesday we began gymnastics run by the Olympia gym. Hopefully the children shared a lot of what happened.

whole class warm ups

There were 4 stations  concentrating on different skills. Dylan is flying high.
Joshua concentrating...

Another station, Liam is enjoying himself.

Angus making a good attempt at a handstand.

On Wednesday for writing  Liz Hooker took the children through the steps of making raro.

They all enjoyed getting a turn at stirring the raro mixture and then of course having a drink.

On Monday Jo Earl gave me these old pipe things. When you talk into them you can hear the echo of your voice. Our new student teacher Renee Norman decorated them and we used them as part of the reading programme on Thursday. The idea was for them to read one of their books from their browsing box to one of the soft toys.

Those who got a turn really loved listening to themselves.

Tomorrow is our marae visit. The children have been well prepared and on Friday we revisited marae protocol and practised the hongi.

Angus and Logan
Emilia and Sophie
David with Ben and Noah and Ethan in the background.

Hopefully you have seen the notice we put in the book bags on Friday. Here's the part about food.

As an earlier notice told you, we are going to be provided with sausages and bread for our lunch together.  We would also like your child to have some additional food so could you please put your child’s morning tea and extra lunch in a NAMED SNAPLOCK BAG.  We will take all this food together in 1-2 carry bags so the children don’t have to take their own school bags down to Hillmorton.
The children come in school uniform. They will be going with Rms 6, 5, and 12.

The rest of the week is as normal with another session of gymnastics on Tuesday. I had mentioned last week that the 2nd group of children to do PMP would start last week, but that will now happen next term.

Regards
Mary
