Term 1 Week 6

On Monday the first beans went in the  'Bean Jar'. The children get to put in beans when they have done a 'choose kind' deed. This is a Lenten activity. If the jar fills up by the end of Lent --it magically changes from beans to jelly beans!!  Thanks for continuing to send the children along with money for the missions.
Brooke putting in the first bean.

Dylan adding the next bean. Both children had received Choose Kind slips from the duty teacher.
Sophie has drawn one child helping another for 'Choose Kind"

Ayden drawing what 'Choose Kind' could look like. He is caring
for someone who  is sad.

This week in RE we learnt what life was like for Jesus and his friends when they were 5. We looked at their houses and clothes.

On Friday we dressed in the clothes that Jesus and his friends would have worn. Three of the boys chose to stay in their own clothes. I have more photos of the children in small groups wearing the tunics, which I will print out and put on display in the classroom.

For the week ahead we have the special mass on Friday when you and your child will be given a bible. This is a first for OLA!!
This Wednesday I will be attending a conference with the other leaders in the school. The conference is about the power of praise. I am really looking forward to it.

Mary

A review of  week 5

I hope you are all enjoying the Publishing book that came home on Friday. This book will be a record of your child's progress throughout this year. This is new for the Rutherford team and replaces the portfolio that used to accompany the mid-year and end -of year report.

I didn't get too many photos this week. The children are enjoying visiting Lily in the garden on Tuesdays. This week their task was to weed a small patch.

Liam was very proud of  his weed!

Also on Tuesdays for PE we have been working on cricket skills. The children are enjoying it and I keep on taking out the I pad but get too involved to take photos.

Tomorrow March 9th Liz Hooker will be doing my release instead of Wednesday.

This coming week is Week 6! We will be beginning a new topic--'100 years of ANZAC.'
Also on Friday instead of TRUMP the children will be involved in Clubs. This is a new school
initiative.
This week Matilda Comins started in Room 1 bringing our roll to 14.
Ayden not so sure!

Regards,
Mary

Week 4

Thanks so much to the families that have encouraged their children to bring money for our Mission box.

Please continue to do so. We have 5 weeks of Lent to go.

On Tuesdays after morning tea we have started to visit Lily 'School Gardener' who comes in on a Tuesday morning to work with the Eco warriors and some classes.

Lily is showing the children what 'deadly nightshade' looks like.
Some of you might have found a clove of garlic in the lunch box on Tuesday. These were harvested from the garden.

This coming Wednesday is 'NO WRAP Wednesday'. One of our aims is to reduce the rubbish in the playground! NO WRAP Wednesday was introduced last year in the month of November. The class with the most lunchboxes Wrap free get an extra 15 minute playtime.

For Fitness this week we were on the Boot Camp.
Sophie wondering if she can do this on her own!

Polly, Brooke and Sophie.
On Monday afternoons just after lunch the whole school is involved in D.A.R. E. [Drop everything and Read.] We always start with a picture book and the children read silently from their browsing boxes.
Emilia and Cohen

Logan, Noah, Sophie and Ethan

Dylan, Ayden and Polly.

Liam, David and Brooke
Finally tomorrow night is the PTA's AGM. We are really lucky to have such a hard working PTA They put on the recent Family Fun Night. They are short of members at the moment and really would appreciate new faces.

Mary
