Round up of Week 1 --Term 3

Hi All

It was a nice surprise for all the students arrive back to new toilets! Many thanks to our hardworking PTA. Having hot water in there as well makes a big difference.

Room 1 settled back quickly and took it in their stride having 2 teachers in the room. On Monday we kicked off the Maori unit with Mrs O'Neill teaching us how to make Koru patterns.

Here is Hayley.
The first step was to create  them in the sandpit.
Matilda is proud of  her koru.

Mrs O'Neill showing Sophie how its done.
On Thursday and Friday we visited Mr Grant who taught us Te Reo.

Hayley and Jessica greeting each other in Maori.
This coming week we will be going to Rm 12 to learn about Myths and Legends and then to Rm 11 to learn about Marae protocol.

Skipping was our focus for Fitness this week.
David in mid-air.

Getting ready to practice the skip jump.

The boys putting their skip run into action.
On Monday I will send home a paper copy of all the things happening during Term 3. Also on Monday Mrs Megan Lanauze from The University of Canterbury Education joins us for 5 weeks. She is a Third year student and it is her last placement.

 Regards,
  Mary

Term 3

Hi All

I do hope you have had a relaxing break! The weather was certainly something else!

Just a roundup of the last week of Term 2. Didn't our children do well hosting the last school assembly for the term!  Polly and Sophie were brilliant leaders. We couldn't have done it as well without the support of Mrs Campbell and her Room 7 students.

It was sad to have to say goodbye to Ayden, his Mum Christine and Dad Sam and not forgetting Ayden's baby sister.

Ayden and buddy Emilia participating in a challenge.

Not the whole class but the last time we had a photo with Ayden when every-one is in full school uniform.

During the last week  Lily showed us how to plant garlic.

Here we have Liam Jones with Angus, Logan and one of the twins.

Another fun activity that happened was in Maths with Mrs Hooker. As part of the Statistics unit she used marsh mellows to sort and group.

This coming week we have Liam Jones begin in Room 1 who began school in Prebbleton at the start of the year. We also have Mrs Colleen O'Neill joining us for the first 4 weeks. Colleen has for the past few years started up a new Entrant class for Term 3 and 4. Her class will be in Room 3. As there will be only a few children for this coming term we are going to share some of the teaching and also concentrate on a few groups each for Numeracy and Literacy. Room 3 will be used as a teaching space as well. This will be of huge benefit to all.
On Thursday Ben Hine, who will be in Colleen's class starts his first few weeks in Room 1.

The only other thing to keep in mind is that Francis House [Green] will be in mufti on Friday as they won the most points for Term 2!

Regards
Mary
