Term 2 Week 5

I hope you all have enjoyed going through the children's Publishing books this weekend. It would be much appreciated if they could be returned tomorrow.

Last  week we finished learning about the Holy Spirit. The children are very good at telling you what it looks like when the Holy Spirit is in you. It is hard for them to understand the concept of the 'Trinity'. We carried out an experiment on Monday.

Milk was poured into a bowl and then 3 different food colourings were added. The last ingredient was a drop of detergent. The detergent made the 3 separate colours mix together, as in the picture above. The children were intrigued! This week we will start on the God strand and learn how God created the world.

All is going well with Production practices. This week each group will go over to the hall and begin to put their song together with the cast. You will be getting a notice explaining the costume your child will need to have.

The children enjoying participating in drama games on Friday led by Miss Hurst.

Also on Friday we were able to have TRUMP in the afternoon.
I nearly said that it was all girls at the creative table but then I spotted Liam!

The boys mainly seem to enjoy being involved with the blocks.

Tomorrow Hayley Stowell starts in room 1, we warmly welcome her and her family.

On Tuesday I will be out of the classroom for a classroom release day to write reports. Liz Hooker will be teaching in Room 1 and on Wednesday as well for my usual release.

Regards,
Mary

Term 2 Week 4

This week was a pretty normal. Production practice is becoming part of a routine. You may be hearing some of the'Treasure Island' songs.

On Thursday Mrs Campbell spent time with the class on one of the new Apps called 'Book Creator'

The focus was on getting a haircut. Matilda and Dylan were some of the models for the book. Hopefully the children told you about it. They got so involved  that they forgot about visiting the library!

On Friday in Religious Education we talked about the feast of the 'Ascension', when Jesus returned to his Father in heaven. They really enjoyed creating their own art piece of the event.

This week is just a normal week. Noah will be with us till Wednesday and then he and Mum and siblings will be jetting off to Scotland for the rest of this term. Dad is staying here. We wish them safe travels and a fabulous family catch up.

Mary

Term 2 Week 3

Thank-you so much to everyone for making sure the children had the right gear and food this week! It was a very busy time. I do hope all you Mothers have had a lovely day!

On Tuesday we were once again back in the garden. Lily had the children help her shift leaves that had been composting. Some of the children loved it.

Wednesday was the Cross Country--brilliant weather and amazing Parent support!

This was the only photo I got and right at the start of the day.

On Friday we attended mass and the children's behaviour was excellent. Afterwards  Father Keven visited us in room 1 and we had a simple discussion about the Holy Spirit and how he/she works in our lives.

Then we had a lovely brainstorm about Mums and what they do for us.

They were very focused on drawing their picture of Mum and them beside her. I hope you found the picture in their school bag!!

This coming week is back to normal routines. I will be out on Thursday afternoon with senior sport and Mrs Campbell or Mrs Shea will be in Room 1.

Term 2 Week 2

On Friday we had not only Benedict mufti but the fundraiser for Nepal. At Assembly we found out that between our school and Hoon Hay school we raised just over $1000.00 dollars.
This was the Wishing Well where we put in our money and prayers. It was on the border of our school and Hoon Hay. It was also beside the  memorial tree that we planted with Hoon Hay school just after the earthquakes.
Last term the children were bringing money to put into our Lenten money box. We raised $62.50 for Caritas. We were the 2nd highest in the school!

This week in Art the children were creating rainbows.

On Friday we were invited by Room 5 to join them for prayers. Afterwards the children worked in pairs to write a prayer for the people in Nepal.

This coming week is busy....On Monday we have Miss Kathryn Hurst a Grad student from Teachers College joining us for the next seven weeks. This is her first placement and she will be working under my supervision. I know that you will give her a big welcome. She is pretty nervous!
Wednesday; is  Cross Country this Wednesday @ Halswell Quarry. I do not know the exact time yet that our children will be running. As its a Wednesday Liz Hooker will be taking the class down. I will be already there as am going early to help set up. The children need to wear their house colour shirt, green shorts and track pants etc to keep warm. They will also take down their morning tea. For ease of transport can their morning tea be in a named plastic bag. No school uniform that day.
Thursday afternoon; Winter sport begins for the Seniors. I will be going down with them to take a netball team. Our DP Mrs Amanda Campbell will take Room 1 for these Thursdays.
Friday;Room 1 attends Mass. The children need to come to school in their school uniform. Mass is at 9.15 am. All welcome.
