Round up of Week 6 Term 3 2015

Hi All

On Friday we said good bye to Mrs Lanauze. Megan had some lovely surprises for the children. She did a huge pass the parcel which the children enjoyed. We will miss her.

Jessica having her turn. Beside her are some of the Room 3 children, Grady, Conor and Tandia.

On Tuesday as part of our science unit the Bennett family kindly bought their pigeons for us to see.

Mr Grant was brave enough to hold this pigeon! The children were amused when the pigeon pooped in his hand.

As part of our Instructional Writing Unit, Mrs O'Neill and Mrs Hooker with the children made instant pudding.

The photos tell the story!  This week being the beginning of Spring and the month of September heralds a heap of exciting events for the children.

Starting tomorrow I will out of the class in the morning with the other Junior teachers hearing about 'Modern Learning Environments". Mrs Earl will be teaching Room 1 and 3. She is quite excited about it. Also joining us from tomorrow is Miss Renee Norman from Teachers college. Renee is a 2nd year student and is really excited about working with a New Entrant class!! [Not that we are now]. She will be with us until the end of the term.

On Monday a new group of children begin their sessions of PMP. They are really excited about it. On Tuesday 'Move Improve' the gymnastic programme starts.
On Friday Room 1 and 3 attend mass with Rm 11. Children will need to come to school in their school uniform that day. Please remember that the polar fleece is not to be worn to mass. Father Kevin will then come and talk to the class.

Regards,
Mary

Round up of Term 3 Week 5

Hi All

I hope you have enjoyed going through your child's Publishing book  over this weekend. It certainly has been a beautiful weekend, the class will have a lot of outdoor experiences to write about on Monday.

Our focus for writing over the last five weeks has been on using describing words to enhance our writing. On Thursday for buddy writing Mrs Lanuze used stick puppets, so the children could use them as a character in their stories.

Ethan and Sophie with gingerbread man.

Dylan and Liam absorbed.

Brooke and Logan planning their story.
Cohen writing and David waiting.
This week we begin procedural writing, where the children will learn how to break things into steps for making things etc.
We continued with our science unit on flight.

Logan and. Ben with their planes

Noah, Emilia and Ethan.

For fitness last week and this week skipping is our focus.

In phonics over the last couple of months we have been working on rhyming families to introduce the children to spelling. On this day we were spelling words that rhyme with 'pig'. I am really proud of the children because they have gone from spelling one word they can list three or four rhyming words. Other rhyming families we use are; 'cat; 'dog' 'bug' and 'hen'.

This week is the last week for Megan Lanuze, we will really miss her! We are getting another student from Teacher College the following week until the end of the term.

Round up of Week 4 Term 3

Hi All

This is the second time I have started this. Tried to get it out before the netball final! Not much to say about that. We did play the last 3 quarters well.

It was a great day on Friday with all the 'Choose Kind Activities'. I never had a chance to catch up with the children to see how they enjoyed their experiences. I am sure you would have heard a lot.

On Wednesday we had a science interchange. Room 1 visited Room 2.

Mr Grant, Sophie and Emilia.

Aiming!

Ethan

Noah, Jessica and Hayley.

The Pied Piper

On Thursday for buddy writing Mrs Lanauze really had the children intrigued when she handed each pair a present. They had to try and guess what was in the parcel and then write about it.

Some wonderful writing took place...

Emilia and Noah

Jessica and Ben

Joshua and Hayley

Then when they got to open their present it was not at all what they guessed;
Joshua and Hayley had a muesli bar.

Liam J and Brooke's present was some of Megan's odd socks.

David and Cohen were not impressed with their pasta.

Ethan and Sophie had an egg carton with stones in it.

This week is just an ordinary one. I have included some maths web sites for you to try and a you tube clip on what pairs make 10.

Round up of Term 3-- Week 3

Hi All

Last week the children really enjoyed participating in science activities. On Monday they had to get into groups and sort pictures under labels. You can see the labels in one of the photos.

On Friday they participated in various experiments, reinforcing the concept that objects need lift to fly. As you can tell from the photos they had lots of fun.

Cohen has managed to get it to work.

Dylan

This was the popular experiment as you can see from Angus and Logan's faces.

Hayley

Mrs Lanuze demonstrating the parachute.

Joshua and Ben

Ethan and Liam.

Polly and Emilia.
The big event this week will be our school's feast day! You would have read the email sent out last Thursday explaining the activities that will occur. This is new for us all so will be interesting and fun. It will certainly make this year's theme "Choose Kind' become a reality. I will be taking a group over to Hoonhay School with Jared Hopkins and we will be releasing 2 of their teachers for an hour and a half. Our Seniors are planning all the events.

Must away to watch the Silver Ferns play Australia!!

Round up of Week 2 Term 3

Hi All

Last week we continued to celebrate Maori Language week, with 2 days spent in Room 12 studying Myths and Legends and the following 2 days in Rm 11 learning about Marae Protocol in preparation for our visit to Hillmorton Marae.
Jessica and Matilda practicing a hongi.

Rules at the marae; Joshua's picture tells us that we can't sit on pillows.

Jessica's picture tells us that you can't run inside the marae.

Hayley, Matilda and Emilia proudly displaying their art work.
In writing we are learning what is an adjective and how to use them correctly in our stories. On Thursdays we have buddy writing. Last Thursday the writing buddies were given a picture of a character to describe.
Logan and Brooke.

Jessica and Ben

Noah and Emilia.
The coming week holds no surprises. This week for Topic we begin a science unit on Flight and for PE we start on Athletics. If you have a chance please check your child's stationery as quite a few have run out of their whiteboard markers.
